"Dive into Virtual Reality": XR2ACH at the 10th Anniversary of the SCHAUFLER Academy

At the 10th anniversary of the SCHAUFLER Academy in Rottenburg-Ergenzingen, the InnoVET PLUS project XR2ACH showed a co-located multiplayer game with BITZER compressors in augmented reality — a development milestone that delighted even the youngest guests.

On 17 September 2026, the SCHAUFLER Academy of BITZER Kühlmaschinenbau GmbH in Rottenburg-Ergenzingen celebrated its 10th anniversary. Under the motto “Dive into Virtual Reality”, the InnoVET PLUS project XR2ACH took part — at the place where the project held its kick-off in early 2025 and where the partners have met regularly ever since.

Playing together, understanding together

At the centre of our stand was a co-located multiplayer game with BITZER compressors: several people stand in the same room, see each other and move together around virtual compressors that are overlaid onto the real environment in augmented reality. The individual experience behind the headset becomes a shared one — people point, ask and discover together.

The game builds on the CAD visualization of the XR2ACH learning environment. The compressors were shown accurately and in detail — a standard that matters all the more in the home of a compressor manufacturer.

A development milestone

For the project, the event marks a significant development milestone: it validated a new feature that will be built into the XR2ACH learning scenarios — co-located multi-user augmented reality. Several people see the same models in their real environment, collaboratively and in sync. Until now, collaboration in XR2ACH took place in a fully virtual room. Now participants share the real room and the virtual content at the same time — an important step towards learning situations in which trainers and apprentices work side by side on a system.

A throwing game for all ages

For the anniversary we built a special mode for children of all age groups: a throwing game with a BITZER compressor model. With its playful, competitive element of a timer and a leaderboard, it was accessible to every age group — even though it runs on a highly complex CAD model of a compressor.

Guests wearing AR headsets play the throwing game: parts of a BITZER compressor float in the room, with a timer and leaderboard in the background

The youngest refrigeration fans

The response was very positive. We were especially pleased that even very young children found their way into the game with no barriers and explored the compressors with visible enthusiasm. This reached an entirely new target group: those who experience early on, through play, how exciting refrigeration and air-conditioning technology can be may one day find their profession right here.

A warm thank-you to the SCHAUFLER Academy and BITZER for the invitation, their hospitality and our long-standing partnership — and congratulations on ten years of commitment to training and continuing education in refrigeration technology!
